Jonathan P. Cargo, O.D., Therapeutic Optometrist/Glaucoma Specialist
Dr. Cargo was raised in Plano, Texas. He earned his bachelors of science in molecular biology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997. He spent one year working closely with a pediatric ophthalmologist, before starting his graduate work at Nova Southeastern University, College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, FL. During his time in Florida, he had externships at the Malcolm Randall Veterans Affairs Hospital in conjunction with the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL., Visual Health and Surgery Center in Lake Worth, FL., and the Broward Optometry Clinic in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Dr. Cargo and his family returned to the Dallas metroplex in August 2002 and founded Cargo Eye Associates. In 2008, Dr. Cargo and his team moved to his current location at Cargo Eye Care of Las Colinas. Dr. Cargo specializes in ocular therapeutics and disease treatment. He has an extended scope license that allows him to prescribe oral medications as well as treat glaucoma. In 2007, Dr. Cargo completed the Northeastern State College of Optometry’s LASER and minor surgery course that gave him advanced training in those respective fields.
Dr. Cargo is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), and served as the Third Party Center Committee Chairman of the Texas Optometric Association (TOA), he is a past president of the Dallas County Optometric Society (DCOS), and is a member of Irving – Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Cargo is the recipient of numerous optometric awards including the TOA president’s award and most recently the 2014 TOA young optometrist of the year award. Dr. Cargo was also a nominee for the 2014 American Optometric Association’s young optometrist of the year award. Dr. Cargo is a speaker for several optometry industry partners and travels the nation meeting with different optometry groups.
Dr. Cargo active in his Catholic church and is an avid cyclist. He has been happily married to Kelly for more than 17 years. They have 5 children and reside in Flower Mound, TX.
Reena Patel, O.D., Therapeutic Optometrist/ Glaucoma Specialist
Dr. Patel has been a part of the Cargo Eye Care family since 2009 and has now returned as an associate optometrist! She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in psychology, and continued her graduate studies at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Patel graduated as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society and a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She completed her externship rotations at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and the Community Eye Clinic in Fort Worth, Texas. During this time, Dr. Patel gained incredible experience in the treatment and management of ocular disease, pediatric care, specialty contact lens fitting, and much more! She has an extended scope license that allows her to prescribe oral medications as well as treat glaucoma.
Dr. Patel enjoys good food, travelling the world, music, dancing, and making a positive difference in patient’s lives.
Cargo Eye Care Team
Denise joined the Cargo Eye Care team in July of 2017. She was born in El Paso and raised in in nearby Fabens Texas. She began her clinic experience working at the Southwest Retina Institute, in Amarillo, with a group of physicians. She returned to El Paso working as a technician and clinical receptionist in family practice. Denise has recently moved to the DFW area to continue to grow in her career in healthcare industry. She is bilingual in Spanish, and in her free time she enjoys exploring the metroplex with her boyfriend.
Samantha Salios, BBA
Sam was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Flower Mound, Texas. She has a BBA in Business Entrepreneurship from The University of North Texas. She worked in food service throughout her college career and has 6 years of customer service experience. Sam’s goal at Cargo Eye Care is to provide the excellent customer service experience she’s learned throughout the years and to be a valuable and reliable asset to this team. On her free time Sam spends time with her longtime boyfriend and their 2 year old Australian Shepherd, Dax, as well as cheering on our Dallas Cowboys.
Kimberly was born and raised in North Carolina, and graduated from North Lincoln High School in 2010. She attended Western North Carolina University where she majored in Social Work & Safety
Engineering. She has extensive prior experience working in several different customer service roles as well as medical office experience. Kimberly looks forward to helping patients, as well as, her future with Cargo Eye Care. In her free time she enjoys kayaking, the outdoors, and quality time with my friends & family. She moved to Texas in May of 2016 and is still learning all the great spots in the DFW area!
Taina was born in Pennsylvania, and raised in “Mayberry” North Carolina. She moved to Texas after graduating from Mount Airy High School in 2014. Prior to graduating, she obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant license
from Surry Community College and later worked for an Assisted living facility in Flower Mound. She has two years of eyecare experience prior to joining our team in January 2017. She has four years of healthcare and customer service experience. Taina prides herself in providing top quality care to patients, as well as being a dependable, hard-working, and fun team member.
Taina and her fiance Michael have a beautiful baby boy and reside in Flower Mound, TX.
Darcy joined Cargo Eye Care in January 2017. She has 6+ years of customer service experience from working in the food service industry. She is excited and eager to learn new things daily and to improve her skills in the eye care industry. Darcy graduated from Carroll Senior High School in Southlake and continued her education at Tarrant County College. She enjoys spending her free time with her dog, Koda, and watching the Dallas Stars!
Phyllis Covington, ABO, CPO
Phyllis an ABO (American Board of Opticianry) certified optician since 2009. She started her career at Target Optical followed by more than 6 year of training and development in Austin, TX at Lakeline Vision Source, under the direction of Dr. Laurie Sorrenson and her group of doctors. Phyllis enjoys working with patients in selecting the perfect eyewear, especially when they are interested in changing from their “usual” framestyle or look and wanting to try something new and different. When she’s not serving our patients you can find Phyllis on the tennis court with fiancé, or finding a good book to occupy her imagination. She has a 9 year old son, and 1 year old daughter, and an infant so there is never a dull moment in their home!
Blake Kuzniar, CPOA
Blake has been with the Cargo Eye Care team for more than 3 years, and is growing in her skills and knowledge. Blake makes it her personal goal to learn something new every day so she can provide the best service to our patients. She graduated from Irving High School and has an Associate’s degree from North Lake College. Since Blake is from the area, she occasionally welcomes previous classmates to our office. Blake and her husband are proud parents of their 2 year old boy. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going shopping, and playing with her dog.
Gabriela Hernandez, CPOA
Gabriela joined Cargo Eye Care in March of 2013. She enriches our team with her expertise in customer service developed during her previous work experience in the insurance industry as well as with a security company. Gabby, as she prefers to be called, is fluent in Spanish and frequently assists our patients with both her clinical and optical skills. She has earned her certification as a para optometric assistant and strives for excellence. Gabby is committed to providing the highest level of care every day. On the weekends, Gabby loves to take pictures and enjoys scrapbooking.
Denise Ronquillo, CPOA, CPOC
Denise has been a valued team member with Cargo Eye Care for more than 7 years. She excels in serving all of our patients’ needs, and frequently works as a technician, optician, and billing specialist all in the same day. She brings a passion and drive to exceed our patients’ expectations to each task she performs. Denise is one of very few in the industry who is certified as a para optometric assistant and as a para optometric coder. She is originally from Chihuahua, Mexico and speaks Spanish. Denise loves to be active and recently began the challenge of crossfit. In her spare time, she enjoys arts & crafts and spending time with her family.
Joanna Jones, CPOT
Joanna has worked with Dr. Cargo for 10 years. She has seen our company move into our current location and grow over time. Joanna’s passion is spending time with our patients and educating them about their optical needs. She comes to us with more than 5 years of previous experience in the optical industry and has recently earned the highest level of certification as a Certified Paraoptometric Technician (CPOT). She just recently celebrated her 10 year anniversary with Cargo Eye Care. In her free time, Joanna likes to spend time with her husband watching their favorite movies or television shows, playing board games, watching FC Dallas Soccer games, or going out to catch a show like Blue Man Group, Two Cellos, or tribute bands at the House of Blues.
Kelly Cargo, M.S., CCC-SLP
Kelly has helped Dr. Cargo since Cargo Eye Associates was formed and has taken a more active role since our move to Cargo Eye Care of Las Colinas in 2008. She loved her previous work as a Speech Language Pathologist in the public school setting, helping children improve communication skills. During this interim, she is supporting her husband’s efforts and enjoys the privilege of caring for their young children. In addition to assisting Dr. Cargo and the team behind the scenes, Kelly manages our optical inventory to ensure we have a wide selection of quality eyewear. Kelly wants every patient that comes to Cargo Eye Care to find eyewear that they feel confident and comfortable wearing and meets their specific visual and lifestyle needs. Kelly loves visiting zoos, parks, and museums with her family, actively participating in their parish community, and reading a good book any chance she gets.
