Contact Lenses

The American Optometric Association estimates that more than 45 million Americans age 18 and older wear contact lenses. Additionally, it’s not uncommon for children to begin wearing contacts at age 12 or even younger, making the total number of Americans in contacts lenses even higher.

So if you have been thinking about retiring your glasses in favor of contact lenses, you’re not alone! Contact lenses are more popular today than ever before and Cargo Eye Care is your go-to source for all things contact lenses!

Contact lenses are a fantastic choice for anyone who requires vision correction but does not want to wear glasses, at least on a full-time basis, and does not want to have vision-correcting surgery such as LASIK. There are a number of reasons people choose contacts over glasses.

Patient Checking In

Your Cargo Eye Care optometrist can recommend the best contact lenses for you based on a complete eye examination and a review of your visual needs both at work and play. Since most people can wear more than one type of lens, it’s important to know what the choices are and the advantages and disadvantages of each.

What are the Different Types of Contact Lenses?

Before you invest in contact lenses, it is important to determine which type will best meet your vision needs and your lifestyle. No worries, we’re here to help with that process.

Do you work at a computer all day? Do you work out mostly outdoors or indoors? Are you disciplined about routines or more relaxed? All of these considerations (and more!) will be discussed because different types of lenses and materials lend themselves to different needs, preferences and lifestyles.

The experienced optical superstars at Cargo Eye Care will help you find the contact lens that is the perfect fit for you.

Your Vision is Our Passion!

Soft Lenses

These lenses are our most popular choice! Why, you ask?

Soft lenses are very comfortable to wear and are often recommended for sports because they fit closer to the eye and are more difficult to dislodge. Soft lenses can provide correction for most prescriptions – even astigmatism!
Today, with the introduction of newer materials like silicone hydrogels, which allow more oxygen to the eye, patients find it easier than ever to wear soft lenses comfortably.

Soft lenses must be replaced monthly, weekly or daily depending on the type you choose.

Gas-Permeable (GP) Lenses

Made of moderately flexible plastics, GP lenses offer sharp vision and correct most vision problems. They are more durable than soft contact lenses and can be easier to handle and care for. But some patients report they take a long time to get accustomed to.

Multifocal Lenses

In both soft and GP designs, multifocal lenses offer patients both distance and near vision correction just like a pair of bifocal glasses.

Color Contact Lenses

Want a different look? Enhance your eye color or even change it completely! Colored contact lenses are fun and come in a variety of colors for both light and dark eyes.

Silicone Hydrogels

Silicone hydrogels are soft contact lenses that have high oxygen permeability and are comparable to GP lenses.

Note: We also offer specialty lenses called the ZenLens to treat keratoconus, corneal irregularities, and post corneal surgical care.

Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

Cargo Eye Care of Las Colinas carries all the top contact lens brands, including several options for daily disposable contact lenses, including Bausch + Lomb, Alcon, Johnson and Johnson and Coopervision.

Why Choose a Daily Disposable Contact Lens?

There are so many advantages to wearing disposable contacts! Some of the top reasons Cargo Eye Care patients love daily disposables include:

  • Ease of use (especially when traveling!)
  • Clean contacts every day
  • No more buying pricey contact lens solution (yay!)

Daily disposable contact lenses have also been associated with a lower risk of eye infections when compared to extended wear contacts. One of the limiting factors for contact lenses in teens and older children is responsibility. Since disposable contacts have no cleaning regimen, and require no storage, they are perfect for teenagers and preteens!

Regardless of the type of contact lenses you choose, an annual eye exam is recommended to ensure the continued good health of your eyes. Schedule an appointment for an assessment and advice at Cargo Eye Care of Las Colinas in Irving, and we will be in touch with you shortly.
