Jonathan P. Cargo, O.D., Therapeutic Optometrist/Glaucoma Specialist
With a large family (wife Kelly and six kids!) and a thriving optometry practice, Dr. Cargo is a busy guy. But he’s never too busy to spend significant time getting to know his patients, making sure their needs are addressed and cheerfully leading the team at Cargo Eye Care of Las Colinas.
“I think a core value that helps me every day is compassion,” said Dr. Cargo. “I look for the best in everyone and come to each encounter with an open heart while trying to make a positive impact on my patients, my work team and my family.”
A Metroplex native, Dr. Cargo always planned to return home to Texas to establish his practice after completing his formal training at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Following rigorous externships with the Department of Ophthalmology at University of Florida in Gainesville, Visual Health and Surgery Center in Lake Worth and Broward Optometry Clinic in Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Cargo came home and founded Cargo Eye Associates in 2002.
In 2008, he and his team moved to their spacious new facility, Cargo Eye Care of Las Colinas, where Dr. Cargo specializes in ocular therapeutics and disease treatment in addition to comprehensive eye care for the entire family. He holds an extended scope license that allows him to prescribe oral medications as well as treat glaucoma. Dr. Cargo also has advanced training in Laser and Minor Surgery.
“Optometry is a field that is always changing and innovating,” said Dr. Cargo. “I enjoy that about it as it challenges us to be our best and it allows us to bring new technologies to our patients in order to help change their lives with better vision.”
Dr. Cargo is a member of the American Optometric Association and has held leadership positions in the Texas Optometric Association and Dallas County Optometric Society. A sought-after optometric speaker, he presents as an industry partner to optometry groups across the country.
In his rare downtime, Dr. Cargo’s passion is cycling. “I love to spend time in the saddle,” he said, “pushing myself to my personal physical best while solving all the day’s problems in my head.”
Reena Patel, O.D., Therapeutic Optometrist/ Glaucoma Specialist
Dr. Patel has been a part of the Cargo Eye Care family since 2009 when she got her start as an optometric assistant. After completing her formal education and optometric training, she returned as an associate optometrist in 2017.
“There was nowhere I’d rather have established my practice than Cargo Eye Care,” she said. “The progressive thinking and authentic commitment to compassionate patient care were a perfect match for me!”
Dr. Patel completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in psychology, and continued her graduate studies at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Patel graduated as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.
She completed her externship rotations at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and the Community Eye Clinic in Fort Worth, Texas. During this time, Dr. Patel gained incredible experience in the treatment and management of ocular disease, pediatric care, specialty contact lens fitting and much more! She has an extended scope license that allows her to prescribe oral medications as well as manage and treat glaucoma.
Dr. Patel enjoys good food, traveling the world, music, dancing and making a positive difference in patients’ lives.
Kelly Cargo, M.S., CCC-SLP
Kelly has helped Dr. Cargo since Cargo Eye Associates was formed and has taken a more active role since the move to Cargo Eye Care of Las Colinas in 2008. She loved her previous work as a Speech Language Pathologist in the public school setting, helping children improve communication skills.
During this season, she is supporting her husband’s efforts and enjoys the privilege of caring for their six children. In addition to assisting Dr. Cargo and the team behind the scenes, Kelly manages Cargo Eye Care’s optical inventory to ensure a wide and diverse selection of quality eyewear. Kelly wants every patient that comes to Cargo Eye Care to find eyewear that they feel confident and comfortable wearing while meeting their specific visual and lifestyle needs.
Kelly loves visiting zoos, parks and museums with her family, actively participating in their church community and reading a good book any chance she gets.
