Vision Correction

At Cargo Eye Care of Las Colinas in Irving, we offer patients a number of common treatments that will not only improve their vision, but could also help them avoid permanent damage. Here is a closer look at some of the most common vision correction procedures and what patients can expect during and after their treatment. If you would like to know more about any specific contacts, lenses or frames, please feel free to take a look at those individual pages.

Corneal Reshaping (Orthokeratology)

Patients who struggle with mild astigmatism or are nearsighted due to a misshapen cornea may benefit from corneal reshaping. Instead of undergoing surgery, special lenses are used to gently reshape the cornea to improve one’s eyesight. While this treatment option can be quite successful, there are some drawbacks. The primary disadvantage is that the reshaping is not permanent. The patient must continue to wear the lenses each night in order to maintain the results.

LASIK remains one of the most popular treatment options, and millions of patients enjoy improved eyesight due to LASIK technology. It has the ability to set patients free from the hassles of glasses and contact lenses, enabling them to live life to the fullest. During LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis), the team at Cargo Eye Care will use a laser beam to reshape the cornea.

While LASIK can be a great option for a wide variety of issues including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, LASIK is not the best option for every patient. To discover is LASIK is right for you, schedule an appointment with our optometrist.

Low Vision Therapy

When a patient has partial loss of their vision that cannot be corrected with medication, LASIK, corneal reshaping, eyeglasses or contact lenses, it is referred to as low vision. Low vision is often caused by issues such as degenerative retinal diseases, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopothy and atrophy of the optic nerve.

Low vision therapy begins with a thorough examination of the eyes to determine the patient’s precise visual abilities. Our team can then prescribe low vision devices and train you on the proper ways to use them.
